I wanted to create a list of assets needed for PR campaigns and post it on the blog for a couple of reasons; 1, so new clients can refer to it and 2. so potential clients get an idea of the materials needed to execute a good campaign. The best PR campaigns for goth/industrial, ebm/darkwave/post-punk artists have the following assets:
artist photos – should be as professional looking as possible, suitable for press releases (at least 700×700 dpi)
previous media quotes (if a blog, zine or writer said something great about you)
Youtube link (If you don’t have a video, we can use a lyric video, visualizer or static art with music)
list of social and streaming links
digital .mp3 files (NOT .wav)
MOST IMPOTANT: a description of your release; themes, ideas, stories that run throughout the release. We want to put a “story” spin on the headline. The last thing we want to do is have a headline like, “Industrial Band A Drops Album B”. That’s not impactful and it doesn’t give people something to identify with. It doesn’t have to be a lot. It should just be 2-3 paragraphs.
The best campaigns are those where the artists have their “stuff” together and organized. It helps to have all materials easily found in a zip folder or Google drive link. It also helps when everything is sent in one email.
The more advance notice I have the better. I’m happy to help if I think I can “sell” your project. But planning as far ahead as possible definitely helps. Depending on how the forthcoming couple of weeks are in my schedule, something MIGHT be able to be worked in.
Looking forward to working with you!!
